Hello! So November is very nearly upon us, and that means two things: my birthday and, more importantly, NaNoWriMo!
For those of you who may not know, NaNoWriMo is a beautiful thing where, during the month of November (National Novel Writing Month), you challenge yourself to write 50,000 words (or a number of your choosing) in an attempt to write/finish a novel! Last year was my first year participating, and it was an awesome time, as well as a great way to light a fire in myself to work on Reckoning‘s sequel (back before I’d even published Reckoning).
This year, I’m struggling to choose among three projects I really want to work on. I’d love to compile a collection of short stories about the various characters in Reckoning (Garrett, Adwin, Saxon, etc) that would serve as prequels, as well as Midquels (is that a word?) between Reckoning and its sequel. Mainly, I want to address Garrett’s pre-Reaper life, and Adwin and Saxon’s post-Reckoning life.
My second project would be a whole new novel, completely unrelated to The Breach Trilogy. I have two separate novel ideas, and they would both lean more towards the realm of sci-fi than paranormal. This would be unfamiliar territory for me, aka a growing opportunity, requiring quite a bit of research. We’ll see.
Last, but not least and probably most urgent, The Breach Trilogy #2. I’m still working on it, and I recently had another bout of inspiration, and have been working on it. NaNoWriMo is probably exactly what I need to get me really going, as well as to set off my next rewrite (Attempt 4, I think). Sigh. I want to, but I don’t want to. But this will probably be what I end up doing (and maybe migrate to the other two when I need a breather. Who knows?).
If anyone has an opinion as to what I should do, please feel free to comment and advise. If you’re interested in participating in NaNoWriMo, check out their website! Also, feel free to look me up (Avilak90) and we can be writing buddies!
As always, think happy thoughts! (NaNoWriMo countdown: 21 days!)
I know it’s technically “against the rules,” but I typically start off NaNoWriMo with several story ideas. Either I work on all of them the whole month, or I’ll start off working on several and work my way down until I’m just writing the one that is going the best/keeping my attention. I’m a NaNo Rebel!
Last year was my first win, and I’m excited to do it again this year. I’ll look you up and add you to my friends list, and maybe we can do some word sprints together.

That’d be awesome! I really do need to talk to more writers more frequently. I’m thinking of actually attempting to go out to some of my region’s in-person events.
