#SwiftFicFriday – Week 28 Prompt

#SwiftFicFriday – Week 28 Prompt

Welcome to the new and improved word sprint writing prompt series – #SwiftFicFriday!

After some feedback and more consideration, I’m updating the rules to give more people a chance to participate! Instead of 30 minutes or just an hour, I’m opening the prompt up to FOUR hours: 8:30PM-12:30AM on the east coast.

Other things to keep in mind:

– Include social media links/handles/anything you want to promote (Twitter, FB, etc) & word count in the comment with your submission.
– Submission must be between 150-300 words.
– All stories are property of the authors.
Winner will be determined via reader votes over the weekend.

Ready, set, write!

  1. “Where does this go?” The path Athana led us down was straight out of Sleepy Hollow. Or maybe that Beauty and the Beast scene when Belle goes riding down the spooky, creepy Path of Obvious Bad Choices. Trees lined either side of the path in that perfectly ominous horror movie sort of way. “Because it honestly looks like the sort of trail I cheerfully suggest you go fuck yourself before I head down.”

I wasn’t sure how much of my words translated, but Athana regarded us with a sort of distant curiosity. As though on some level, she’d realized there might be people in this world who didn’t blindly follow her word just because she might be some sort of deity.

And really—being deified was a wholly human construct. Who knew if she had the goods to back up her words? I sure didn’t.

    “Does it matter?” Athana asked.

“Yes, it fucking matters.” Smoke shot from Taewoon’s nostrils.

I gripped my little brother’s arm and tugged him back a step. Ever so slightly behind me, in case Athana was even half what she claimed.

“Look, we appreciate that you’re supposedly a god and all.”

“Supposedly?” Her heavy brows arched upward.

“The concept’s still new to us.”

I glared at the glowing woman—with her scarred armor and visage—appreciating that a self-proclaimed deity of life and death was every bit as rough and tumble in appearance as life and death themselves.

Maybe she was on the level.

“I don’t go assuming everyone who tells me they’re a god is actually on the level.”

“Your words are baffling, child. But I like your spirit.” Athana seemed more amused than insulted, and I added another pro tick to my mental pros and cons lists regarding her. “Will you be my champion?”
