Siobhan Muir takes her third #SwiftFicFriday win!
Check out her story below and congratulate her on Twitter 🙂
Eloise stepped into the Callowwood Library and took a deep breath. It smelled like books and patience and knowledge, and she loved it. She just hoped the familiar scents would calm the butterflies in her stomach when it came to the task she had ahead of her.
Yeah, the task Tommy made fun of me for. Anger surged at the memory of her erstwhile fiancé laughing about her efforts to find her older sister. He’d called her a wannabe Nancy Drew and said she was too dumb to figure it out.
Yeah, like that would work. They’d done nothing so far so she’d just make her own efforts. She spoke to Mrs. Trace and the old librarian had helped her learn how to use the search engines using keywords and reverse lookup.
Eloise set her glasses on the desk and rubbed her eyes. How could she going to sort through all this information and still come up with nothing? She Goggled or Giggled or whatever the hell they called it for hours and all the details she’d found added up to nothing.
Maybe Tommy was right. I’m just too stupid to figure this out.
She covered her eyes with her hands to hold in the tears as she leaned back in the uncomfortable plastic chair. It was hopeless. She’d never find her sister now.
“Eloise? Are you okay?”
The rich, male voice washed over her and made her heart thunder with painful recognition. Kyle Howler. The one man she couldn’t keep her mind off of even when her sister was missing. I’m pathetic.
“No, I’m not okay. My sister is missing and I can’t find anything on Goggle.”
The warm chuckle made her scowl as she opened her eyes. “It’s Google, and maybe I can help.”
Come back on Friday for the next prompt!
