#SwiftFicFriday – Week 6 Winner

Happy Monday!

Cara Michaels (@caramichaels) is now a 4x #SwiftFicFriday winner!

Check out her story below and congratulate her on Twitter 🙂

“Um, Nate? Where are we going?” Maybe I shouldn’t be nervous, but Nathan stopped as the trail we walked officially headed into uncharted—for me—territory. “I just—I’ve never been here.”

The wooden walkway bracketed by user-friendly railings screamed publicly maintained park. Nothing untoward there. Until the walk bumped into a staircase… And the staircase took a turn as it climbed the hill… And then it disappeared into the shadows of well-kept greenery that maintained a politely groomed distance from the walkway.

I was probably overthinking this.

“Sunset Point?”

“And that’s what?”

“A place to… watch the sunset?”

Again. Maybe I was overthinking this.

“There’s an overlook at the top.” Nathan smiled and offered his hand.

“The kind of overlook where unsuspecting innocents get tossed to their doom?”

He framed his chin in the vee of this thumb and index finger, said finger tapping thoughtfully against his cheek.

“That’s one possibility.” Then he stuck his hand out toward me again. “Or.”

Or, a very pretty place to watch the sunset over the city?”

“And you’re bringing me here, because—?”

“I—wanted to watch the sunset? With you?” He seemed less sure of his answers by the second, but maybe—maybe—that was my fault.

“That’s very—”

“Thoughtful and romantic?”

“Definitely not serial killer-y.”

Nathan rolled his lips inward.

“I can safely say I was going for not serial killer-y.”

“Aren’t most serial killers?”

He blinked.

“I try not to think like a serial killer in general.” He seemed to come to terms with me never taking him up on hand-holding, and shoved his hands into his back pockets. “Unless it’s job-related.”

“Because you’re a cop.”

“Not tonight. Tonight, I’m just a man hoping to share a sunset.” He rocked back on his heels. “With you.”

Come back on Friday for the next prompt!
